Life coaching is a concept that has become more widely discussed and popular in recent years, and for good reason! Life is a cycle, and we all go through stages of confusion, feeling stuck, or like we aren’t living up to our potential. Sometimes we know we need a change, but we aren’t sure what the next move is or could be.
If you can identify with any of the above, then a life coach may be beneficial for you. Read on to learn more about what life coaching is, who it’s for, and how seeing a life coach can help you live your dream life.
What Does a Life Coach Do?
Probably the most common question we hear, “what does a life coach do?”
Life Coaches help us get organized and remove obstacles so that we can achieve our goals. A life coach is a mentor, and they will help you identify obstacles and create plans to overcome them.
Your life coach will help you understand your what, why, and how – helping you identify what your end goal is then mapping out how to go from point A to point B.
While coaching may be therapeutic, life coaches are not therapists and shouldn’t be substituted for one. The main difference between coaching and therapy is that a life coach will look at your present and work with you to identify the future while therapy may examine your past to help you thrive in the present.
While they’re not the same, you don’t necessarily have to choose between them. You can absolutely participate in therapy and life coaching at the same time!
If you’re still unsure of what a life coach does, we think the following information will be helpful as you work through determining if a life coach is right for you.
Who is a Life Coach For?
This is often the hardest step for people to take—determining if they even need a life coach, or identifying how they may benefit from one.
Take a minute to think about your dream life and the future you want for yourself. What are the gaps between today and the future?
A life coach will help you bridge that gap. Some of the most common issues that people see a life coach for include:
- Clearing clutter
- Setting and achieving goals
- Overcoming fears
- You don’t have a strong support system
- Difficulty defining a clear vision
- Balancing business and personal life
- Improving communication skills
- You’re easily distracted or sidetracked by unimportant tasks
- Getting a promotion at work
- Getting out of a rut
- Working through an important life transition
- Trouble following through on goals
- You feel like you’ve lost a passion for life
- Limiting beliefs are holding you back
These topics just barely touch on all the ways a life coach can help you. If you can identify with just one, scheduling a consultation with one of our life coaches is well worth it.
Additionally, it’s essential to have clear expectations when going into life coaching. If you’re looking for someone to tell you exactly what to do, you don’t like change, or you think your life is already good enough, then life coaching may not be for you.
What to Expect with Our Life Coaches
We know that taking the plunge and going to your first life coaching session can be scary! We want our patients to feel empowered and in the loop. Here’s a quick overview of what to expect during life coaching with our team.
At Living Well, Dallas, we offer mapping sessions to reveal the big picture of your life, and this includes assessing how you compartmentalize your thoughts, feelings, and actions and how this translates into your actions. How well and how much effort it takes to do them? We call this process, “reducing the subterranean brain chaos” to make what matters to you happen.
During your life coaching session, we get out a large pad, pencils, crayons, and markers and ask open-ended questions to facilitate discussion about your life goals and desires. When finished, you’ll have a beautiful piece of art that we can use as the organization life map or building block for your Life Strategic Plan.
We Will Work Together
Together we’ll look at how your organizational mind works and then give you a plan that reinforces your strengths and helps you tweak the weaknesses to make things flow for you. Our approach helps to (re)map your life so that you do something with a clearer purpose, more comfortable and faster.
Our goal is to help you develop a plan for change through tips that fit your lifestyle, mindset, and desires. This can help you do more in less time so that you’re doing more of the things that you love and don’t get bogged down as easily by the unimportant tasks that tend to eat up our time.
We’ll work together so that you can live a happier and fuller life! Life coaches will save you time, help you gain peace of mind, will hold you accountable, and much more!
